This article demonstrates how strategic empathy may be deployed to garner support for particular human rights activist projects by focusing on Malala Yousafzai's life writing.

Why is it important?
Though there have been previous studies of Yousafzai's blog and autobiography, few have teased out the ways in which these two texts exemplify authorial narrative empathy and how it may have an impact, even if it is just getting emotionally involved with the cause.
Perspectives
By shedding light on the strategic empathizing techniques Yousafzai makes use of, I offer clues that may guide other authors, academic or otherwise, in what counts as effective activism and why.
