Why is it important?

This research is highly topical. The participation of civil society in peace implementation it key for peacebuilding in Colombia, and is one of the issues on the agenda of peace negotiations between the Colombian government and ELN. Learning lessons from a key mechanism for the participation of civil society in the process of peace implementation in Guatemala is therefore highly relevant.

Perspectives

This article offered me the opportunity to reflect on research conducted fifteen years ago in Guatemala and share some perspectives on how the experience of the "mesas de concertación" in Guatemala can provide useful insights into possible mechanisms for the participation of civil society in peace implementation in Colombia.
