What is it about?

a false or moderate water deficit can induce the up-regulation of resistance genes and improve tomato fruit quality.

Why is it important?

Without real stresses, a false stress to create a crisis signal to induce some sleeping genes that inactivated by excessive fertilization and irrigation. The theory of signal transduction is used in plant production. A new research field neglected by molecular biologists.

Perspectives

This is one of a series of research on applications of xerophytophysiology and signal transduction in plant production. Molecular biologists use the model plant Arabidopsis to do this kind of research, but they do not know how to use these theories to production of crops such as tomato, peanut, wheat and flowers.
