What is it about?

This paper includes an analysis of officially subsidised housing as a policy tool in theAutonomous Communities. In particular, a set of determining factors that may be predominantin this type of housing in the country during the period 2008-2022 have been analysed. Thus, through a data panel for the Autonomous Communities, we can conclude that, although there is a positive and significant association between subsidised housing and free housing, in the caseof other macroeconomic factors such as Gross Domestic Product (GDP) pc and the averagewage, these negatively influence the evolution of the subsidised housing. This can be interpretedas that in times of higher levels of GDP pc and higher average wages, the greater demand forhousing makes promotion tend to focus on free housing rather than subsidized housing. In anycase, we find significance in the total promotion of housing over the promotion of subsidizedhousing. Taking into account the incentives that can be provided to encourage the creation ofa public housing stock in the long term, a significant result is that the promotion of subsidisedhousing, in any of its forms, is due more to the will of the public authorities than to environmentmacroeconomic variables.
