What is it about?

The study examines the effectiveness of mangrove conservation efforts in Indonesia. It uses a land management analytical framework to assess how well land management practices align with mangrove preservation goals. Specifically, it evaluates selected case studies in Indonesia, focusing on how and to what extent major land interventions and mangrove preservation activities could align, and which land management aspects require improvements. Essentially, it aims to provide a structured way to analyze and improve the success of mangrove conservation through better land management strategies

Why is it important?

The article is important because it introduces the so-called 'Land management equation', which describes that land management actions create changes in how and who governs which piece of land, in which formal rights are adapted, where in where and how economic dependencies and opportunities can arise and how people react in their behaviour and their perception. This equation can help to compare case studies. It is also important to understand how and why mangroves are changed, saved or damaged.

Perspectives

I found it essential to bring a more holistic perspective on the effect of land management actions.
