What is it about?

Privacy is an issue that affects technology, policy, politics, business and many other fields. But what does the term mean? Can we create a definition of privacy that promotes understanding across disciplines? This article explores privacy as cultural behaviours and principles, trimming down the detail of specific implementations in law or computing to look at two broad aspects: freedom and property. Viewing privacy in this way allows us to look at the current issues in online privacy and prepare for a future in which privacy is at risk.
