Why is it important?

In South Africa, the management of public records in accordance with legal requirements poses challenges due to the complex legal landscape and diverse information systems across institutions. These difficulties predominantly arise when dealing with digital records. The legislative framework necessitates that public institutions effectively handle and maintain these records. However, various obstacles hinder their appropriate management.

Perspectives

Navigating the complex terrain that comes with managing digital records arises from both the complexities inherent in existing laws and regulations as well as the fragmented nature of information systems across various institutions. Therefore, effective management of digital records necessitates a comprehensive understanding of legislation specific to electronic recordkeeping along with strategies for harmonizing disparate information systems.
