What is it about?

This review explains some of the basics of shock wave based therapies in cancer treatment. It also introduces our new method of cancer cell destruction based on the effects of mechanical shock waves. The paper also discusses latest computational multiscale approaches to understand the interaction of strong shock or pressure waves on soft biological material such as cells and tissue. The paper provides many relevant references, too.

Why is it important?

Progress in computational modeling strategies and techniques for understanding the basic physical mechanisms that occur in the interaction of shock waves with cellular structures contributes to a fundamental understanding in an emerging multidisciplinary research area, where physics, chemistry, biology and medicine meet to understand the essential physics of cancer cells.
