An exploration of how Scottish fiction and Scottish politics got intertwined in the period of devolution, based on archival research and interviews as well as readings of novels.

Why is it important?

Devolution is a hugely important part of the Scottish and British political order, but almost nobody has a coherent way of explaining it or telling a satisfying story about it. This essay explores why that might be.

Perspectives

Incorporating research findings (from a research project of the same name) was a challenge, but I hope this is an informative starting-point to anyone beginning to explore the cultural dimension of devolution.
