What is it about?
This paper highlights the main characteristics of ADR system in Laos PDR based on the Stobbe's work(2018) and other researchers of Laos PDR. The key feature of ADR system in Laos PDR is that they seem to consist of various levels of mediation: within family mediation, village elder's mediation, village head's mediation, village mediation committee. Only after the failure of mediation within a village, case goes to provincial court system in Laos even in today. This diverse kinds of mediation within a village look like Chinese mediation system. In particular, Op-loom is similar to Chinese mediation system since bot types of mediation includes education of disputants as well as simple dispute resolution.
