Why is it important?

Safety in construction industry is considered more important as compared to the other industries. Overall poor occupational safety and health conditions results into a 4% economic burden of the world GDP. Without a clear definition towards safety leadership, a misalignment between safety expectations may occur which can create a misappropriation towards safety efforts. This may adversely impact injury rates within the workplace due to ill-conceived safety leadership behaviors.

Perspectives

This paper was based on a literature review to define the key components of the safety leadership in construction. The review end with a definition of safety leadership as "The demonstration of safety values through the creation of a vision and the promotion of well-being through the art of engagement, honesty and discipline". Several integral components of the safety leadership are discussed more in detail in the paper.
