What is it about?

Alkali-activated binders are investigated for their potential use as repair materials of Portland cement concrete. Repair materials using alkali-activated binders made from fly ash and Portland cement or calcium hydroxide activated with sodium hydroxide and sodium silicate solutions comparing to commercial repair materials have been investigated. It is suggested that the alkali-activated binders with Portland cement as additive can be used as a repair binding material which not only has high bond strength but is also cost-effective.

Why is it important?

Our finding show the interface zone of PCC substrate and AAB is homogeneous with no visible gap between the two bonding surfaces.

Perspectives

The outcome of this study should lay a foundation for the future use of alkali-activated binders as fundamental of alternative repair materials.
