What is it about?

The limiting void ratios, i.e. minimum and maximum void ratios, are fundamental properties of granular soils, which are significantly influenced by particle size, and particle shape. In this study, we introduce a new material parameter for sands, morphologic index, to represent the relationship between particle size and particle shape. We propose equations that use the index to predict the limiting void ratios of sands from particular sites. The role of morphologic indices on the variation of limiting void ratio is demonstrated.
