What is it about?
From the discovery of the molecular basis of the human skin cancer prone xeroderma pigmentosum syndrome, I opened up the field of "epigenetic toxicology", the first discovery of adult stem cells, ; showed how these stem cells gave rise to "cancer stem cells" and for their use for drug discovery and toxicity testing. Lastly, the the role of nutrition and diets are responsible for the modulation of human cancers.

Why is it important?
While about 10% of human cancers are the primary genetic factor in the gene-environmental interation, that implies ,besides too much alcohol, smoking, calories and the lack of excercise, our global metabolic crisis is the result of poor nutrition and diets.
Perspectives
There are two types of scientists. One is able to pursue their passion of science, their unique skills, initial perspective of their life-time goal and with luck, support end up generating a deep dive into one discipline. The other group of scientists, like myself, stated out with a niave view what the scientific process is; how it is influenced by changing, dynamic personal and cultural factoors ( in my case, I was shaped by the explosion of the two atomic bombs, the Sputnic event, dumb luck with new unpredicted discoveries ( discovery of epigenetic-acting chemicals), being mentored by "giants" in the field, having several international experiences and being able to incorport major technical and conceptual that occurred during my professional journey. That journey was not "straight", but fill with many barriers. An experience that many other scientists have experienced
