What is it about?

The objective of this study was to investigate the bond strength between concrete and reinforcement, especially the effect of concrete confinement with transverse reinforcement to improve the existing theoretical bond models.

Why is it important?

The proposed bond strength equations are promising to predict the bond strength between concrete and reinforcement, and can be used to determine the anchorage lengths of reinforcing bars in well-confined concrete where a pull-out bond failure may occur.

Perspectives

Further validation and calibration of the model are required using other test results on different concrete grades and reinforcing bars geometries.
