What is it about?

Metal forming, also known as stamping, is one of the most important industrial operations, used to build from cars to cheap jewelry, using metallic sheets. The ability a material presents to be formed s measured by a forming limit curve (FLC) and the most critical situation is measured by a parameter, called FLC0. The present work shows a practical way to measure FLC0.

Why is it important?

The measurement of the critical formability parameters is important to prevent processing defects. The stamping industry is a high productivity industry and defects disturbs this productivity, increasing costs.

Perspectives

This was an achievement of my former student, Dr Marcos Domingos Xavier. He started his PhD under supervision of Prof. Ronald Lesley Plaut and I assumed after Prof Plaut retired. This work also marks my first incursion in the field of forming processes.
