What is it about?

Kidney failure increases infertility, and transplantation can bring back the possibility of pregnancy. But it is considered a high risk pregnancy, with more chance of miscarriages, prematurity and maternal complications. This work is a review of 40 years of experience in a kidney transplant center, with a large number of pregnancies and their outcomes.

Why is it important?

Reports on pregnancy after transplantation are increasing, but scarce. They are important to help build the information and make the discussion more open. The challenge includes creating strategies to mitigate the risks. There are ethical issues involved too, and we believe it has to be a shared decision with the patient, their family and a multidisciplinary team.
