What is it about?
This study presents Brazil’s first national consensus on lipedema. Using the Delphi method, 113 experts created evidence-based guidelines to improve diagnosis, treatment, and awareness of this underrecognized condition.

Why is it important?
Lipedema is often misdiagnosed as obesity or lymphedema, leading to improper treatment and patient suffering. This consensus is a critical step in standardizing care, reducing stigma, and promoting earlier diagnosis and multidisciplinary, evidence-based treatment strategies in Brazil
Perspectives
The consensus highlights the need for more research on lipedema’s causes, diagnostics, and long-term treatment outcomes. It encourages collaboration among clinicians, researchers, and patients to refine therapies and improve quality of life. Future efforts should focus on validating clinical tools, exploring genetic links, and strengthening international collaboration
