What is it about?

At a time of continuous economic uncertainty and a highly competitive labor market, it is crucial for undergraduates to be more pro-active about their future careers. Using structural equation modelling (SEM), this work examines the relationship between career guidance activities (as identified in the DOTS model) and undergraduates’ employability upon graduation. It also identifies the exogenous variable (among the four dimensions of the DOTS model) that plays a prominent role in the structural model.

Why is it important?

The uniqueness of this study is in the analysis of the DOTS model using structural equation modelling (SEM),

Perspectives

This article is one of my best articles and I am so excited about it. In this article, the DOTS model was tested and through SEM, we confirmed the significant positive influence of the four career guidance activities on students’ employability in Nigeria. Besides, the study elucidates on the relative influences of the four dimensions of career guidance activities - self-awareness and opportunity awareness have the greatest influence on students’ employability, followed by decision-making skills, and then transition learning skills. Useful recommendations and appropriate strategies on how universities can strengthen their engagement of undergraduates with the four dimensions of career guidance activities were included in the article. I hope you find it interesting and, much more, useful for your research.
