What is it about?

This paper analyzes how the rise of the oil industry between 2005 and 2006 in Azerbaijan has affected institutional and human capital. The study uses a combinatorial approach, namely principal component analysis and regression estimates, both linear. Thanks to this research design, it is possible to identify a negative impact of the oil industry on institutional and human capital in Azerbaijan.

Why is it important?

Compared to the purely economic manifestations, the theory of the curse of natural resources has not been well studied in the case of the Azerbaijani economy. Therefore, this paper contributes to the literature and highlights the elusive aspects of the phenomenon.

Perspectives

This study is one of the pioneer studies in the case of the Azerbaijani economy. Therefore, I am pleased to share these findings with a wider audience of scholars, policy makers, and other readers.
