What is it about?

As it has been three years since this publication, summarising it will not be fresh in my mind. But the article was written in defense of a critical attack on the objectivity of scholars who study paganism (Contemporary Western Paganism for the most part) and who are themselves pagan. This refers to the old 'insider-outsider' debate. Each position of course has it advantages, and neither ought be rejected without consideration of the inherent potential of either the emic (insider) or etic (outsider) perspective.

Why is it important?

As paganism becomes increasingly recognised as a significant and operative religio-spiritual option in today's world - one which has otherwise been repressed, neglected and/or dismissed for nearly two millennia, the methodologies in its study require understanding and examination.
