What is it about?
The alignment of prehistoric structures with the equinox always raises doubts whether it was intentional. The paper shows how these doubts have been addressed and the results obtained by fieldwork using different approaches.

Why is it important?
Our findings added information on how the prehistoric people at Mnajdra, Malta may have set up features in the landscape to follow the changing position of sunrise during the year and possibly regulate the timing of festivities.
Perspectives
Writing this article brought forth many fond memories because it is actually an account and analysis of fieldwork carried out in the 1980s but which was never submitted for publication. It now stands as a memorial to one of us (GA) who sadly passed away four months ago.
