What is it about?
Sub-micron-sized B4C particles with spherical morphology were synthesized at 1550°C. The precursor is easily obtainable and low cost; thus, this improved continuous flow process can be used in industry.

Why is it important?
The objective of the current study was to develop a continuous flow process based on the spray pyrolysis technique to synthesize sub-micron-sized B4C particles at relatively lower temperature than that of carbothermic reduction processes without any need for a grounding process to decrease the particle size. To the best of our knowledge, the approach described in this study has not been used before. The effect of Ni addition to the precursor solution as a catalyst on the particle composition and production temperature of B4C was also investigated.
