What is it about?

It is well-reported that, with an content up to 0.5 wt%, oxygen shows a strong effect to cause embrittlement of titanium and its alloys. This paper however established that the content of oxygen solid solution can extend up to 0.8 wt% in titanium, while the Ti material still has a very high tensile ductility with an elongation-to-failure over 20%.

Why is it important?

This work provides a window to develop high strength Ti alloys without using rare and noble metals.
