What is it about?
Poor sleep quality and shorter sleep duration is linked to obesity, but the correlation is different in certain subpopulations. We studied this relation in two Roma subgroups with very different sociocultural status (the wealthy Gabor and the poor Lovari Roma), compared to the non-Roma population.

Why is it important?
Sleep hygiene is important for maintaining a healthy metabolic status. Components and effects of pathologic sleep patterns are different in different subpopulations, even in one ethnic group. Gabor Roma had significantly higher percentage of poor-quality sleep. Sleep duration and sleep quality were linked with obesity, mainly in the Roma population.
