What is it about?
Since stress during childbirth leads to hormonal changes, and hinders the physiological birth process we studied the factors of physical security and social support, the administration of synthetic oxytocin, and how they relate to perceived stress during childbirth.

Why is it important?
Many health care providers underestimate the importance of the natural hormones being secreted during undisturbed physiological birth to help mother and child to adapt well mentally, emotionally and behaviorally to the process of birth and the period afterwards. That is why we recommend calming physical surroundings, minimal interventions and empowering support of caregivers to safe and satisfying birth.
Perspectives
The calm and supportive behavior of caregivers helps that the 'calm and connect' stress reaction will take the lead instead of the 'fight or flight' stress reaction and an extra surge of oxytocin aids the laboring woman to proceed in labour. Whereas the use of synthetic oxytocin causes negative stress and panic.
