The article reports about the first steps of health literacy research in Hungary. It shows useful measurements to assess patients'health literacy.

Why is it important?
The article introduces the Hungarian validation of S-TOFHLA and the Chew-questions, which are complementary measurements - performance-based and self-report - assessing health literacy.
Perspectives
The work on test validation was a fruitful collaboration with the Università della Svizzera Italiana, Institute of Communication and Health led by Peter Schultz. We carefully selected the measurements to be suitable for application in clinical setting.
