What is it about?

Classifying plant communities at landscape scales needs to match landscape scale vegetation maps. We show that classifying savanna plant communities using only the common species and incorporating vegetation height identifies plant communities people can recognise at those scales.

Why is it important?

Classifying and mapping vegetation at landscape scales is important for land management in many different fields. Using vegetation features such as height and commonness identifies savanna plant communities that are mappable, making vegetation maps and classification talk to each other. This allows more informed and transparent land management decisions.
