What is it about?
We isolated a carbapenem-resistant B. fragilis strain from the boold of a male patient with urinary tumor, described the case and characterized the B. fragilis strain by microbiological and molecular methods.

Why is it important?
Despite rare, carbapenem-resistant B. fragilis can be cultivated from anaerobic clinical materials, and this kind of infection may cause serious treatment problems.
Perspectives
By analysis of the carbapenem resistance mechanisms of B. fragilis it may help to design better therapeutics.
