What is it about?
It's a survey of early signs of xenophobia among ninth and eleventh grade students measured by uneasiness to sit by side of classmates belonging to another nation or ethnic group. A list of 13 different nations and ethnic groups was used. Only a little more than 50 percent of students show know sign of xenophobia. The most refuted groups are Gypsies, Arab, Romanian and Jew. No special patterns of combined groups can be detected. Distribution of the sample by number of refuted groups is clearly hyperbolic from the maximum at 0 to the minimum at 13.

Why is it important?
National hatred, racism and general xenophobia play an important role in the history of Hungary up to our days. Political regimes use it to maintain their power. We see that realized in the policy concerning migration in our days. Nationalism is a strong weapon used by the government in the election campaign in 2010 and later in 2018.
Perspectives
We think Hungarian teachers and educationalists form the major target group of this article as they van be interested in the process of political socialization of the surveyed population.
