What is it about?
A simple chromogenic reagent sodium nitroprusside is shown to be an effective chromogenic reagent for visual detection of pesticides which split up and gives thiol group on alkaline hydrolysis.

Why is it important?
The sodium nitroprusside is used for the first time for detection of thiol generating pesticide.
Perspectives
The only application of sodium nitroprusside that was known to chromatographer was detection of proteins capable of producing thiol. This method shows application over snp and how it can be used in combination with mercurous nitrate to separate many pesticide having normal sulphur and pesticides which can produce thiol on hydrolysis helping to find unknown pesticide.
