Why is it important?

The 2014 Presidential elections mark the first peaceful and democratic transfer of power in Afghanistan's history. This article highlights both shortcomings of the internationally-assisted electoral process, focusing on issues of fraud, logistics, security, etc., and civic gains made as a consequence of the democratic process.
