What is it about?
This research identifies by data analysis three main competencies of engineering professors, namely, content-pedagogical knowledge, innovation-inspiring attitudes, and emotional skills. Furthermore, all these competences have a positive influence on professors' performance, as perceived by engineering students.

Why is it important?
In this world of rapid technological change, there is a call for transformation in Engineering education all over the world. In this sense, not only the future engineers’ competencies need transformation, but also Engineering educators’ competencies as well, which are the focal subject of this research.
Perspectives
An interesting results was that engineering students not only need to develop innovation competencies, but Engineering Educators also have to develop innovation-inspiring attitudes to motivate students' innovativeness. The paper is also interesting as it employed diverse data analysis techniques such as exploratory factor analysis (principal components analysis) (EFA/PCA), partial confirmatory factor analysis (PCFA) and logistic regression.
