What is it about?

A study of the elements of Pueblo peoples artifacts can help trace the evolution of the manufacturing methods used by such civilization. Here we examine pottery samples from various sites in New Mexico, USA. We obtain elemental composition by using x-ray fluorescence, and apply three different methods to determine correlations among different chemical elements. It is our hope that thi study will guide further archaeological studies and assist experts in the assessment of provenance and historical ethnographic studies.

Why is it important?

This is investigation important because the Pueblo people has a history of disappearing from some settlements and reappearing somewhere else; tracing the composition of the Pueblo pottery can help establish the precedence of some sites over others.

Perspectives

It is our hope that this study will guide further archaeological studies and assist experts in the assessment of provenance and historical ethnographic studies.
