What is it about?

What factors affect translation termination efficiency? Just as a sense codon could be misread by a release factor, a stop codon can be misread by a tRNA, and the abundance of such tRNAs can select against the usage of specific stop codons. It is long known that the 3' flanking nucleotide (+4 site) can affect the stop signal strength, but how do different combination of stop codons and release factors favour different +4 site? How differential gene expression mediate the selection on stop codon and +4 site? This paper tries to bring all these together.

Accurate and efficient translation initiation, elongation and termination is essential for cellular functions. Relative to translation initiation and elongation, translation termination is much less known.
