What is it about?
This review discusses the cell signaling pathways utilized by very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL), which transports fat throughout the body, increases the production of aldosterone, a hormone that increases salt retention and blood pressure. Since VLDL levels are elevated with excess weight, the ability of this lipoprotein to stimulate aldosterone production may provide an explanation for the association of high blood pressure with obesity, a worldwide epidemic.
