What is it about?
Increased Neuropeptide Y (NPY) due to stress or genetic factors cause obesity and metabolic disorders. We show here that mice overexpressing NPY in noradrenergic neurons have disrupted hepatic lipid and glucose metabolism, which leads to hepatosteatosis and hypercholesterolemia, and increases the susceptibility to type 2 diabetes. The mechanism seems to be attenuated sympathetic activity in the liver.
