Newborn infant with adrenal hemorrhages and adrenal insufficiency

What is it about?

This is a case report of an infant who suffered bilateral adrenal hemorrhages after a traumatic vaginal delivery. Unfortunately, their adrenal insufficiency persisted years after the diagnosis. We describe the mechanism of injury, and their medical course.

Why is it important?

This explains a severe case of adrenal insufficiency. Providers should consider bilateral adrenal hemorrhage in a neonate who is experiencing hypotension and classic signs of hyponatermia and hyperkalemia.
