What is it about?
In the past, we have used hydrocortisone for patients with Addison's disease but you need to take it three times daily to mimic normal steroid physiology. Prednisolone has a longer half life, and thus can be given once daily. The profile of prednisolone is closer to normal than thrice daily hydrocortisone and this paper has compared other things that people worry about, showing that it is very safe.

Why is it important?
Patients fine once daily tablets easier than thrice daily ones, and this paper shows that once daily prednisolone is the same in all risk factors as thrice daily hydrocortisone
Perspectives
The area of getting the right dose and drug for adrenal replacement therapy is still evolving, and now that we know that prednisolone has the same outcomes as hydrocortisone, we can both do more research comparing these two drugs, and also allow the patients the improved convenience.
