What is it about?

During diagnostic procedures an efficacious sedation is frequently necessary, especially in children. This paper tries to focus on the role of the anesthetists in providing a safe and efficacious sedation.

Why is it important?

Sedation in diagnostic procedures is frequently provided by non qualified professionals, in the hope that "nothing will happen". Unfortunately, the literature has reported many cases of disaster with simple sedations. Hence, this should not be considered a "minor procedure", and should be left to qualified professionals.

Perspectives

Convince the health care providers to always ask qualified professionals, like the anesthetists, to care for any patients requiring sedation for diagnostic procedures.
