What is it about?

Development of a new triaxial testing system for constant water content test on unsaturated soils

Featured Image

Why is it important?

A novel photogrammetry-based method and high-suction tensiometers are used for soil volume and suction measurements during triaxial testing. Results from this test can be used to modeling the constitutive behavior of unsaturated soils.

Perspectives

Comparing with the conventional suction-controlled triaxial test, the time required to characterize an unsaturated soil is reduced from 2-3 years to 1 week using the newly developed system for undrained triaxial test. Also, the volume and suction measurement results are more reliable.
