What is it about?
While a focus on the economic impacts of the pandemic will be part of the solution towards rebirth of the manufacturing industry, we propose that environmental and social impacts are equally important with respect to developing a resilient industrial sector. In this article, we present strategies for addressing three sustainability challenges relevant to manufacturing production introduced by the COVID-19 pandemic: 1) an increase in waste generation, 2) uncertainty in life cycle impacts, and 3) navigating new modes of operation for manufacturing.
