A High-Pressure Shear Testing Approach to Measure Flow Stresses Near a Friction Stir Welding Tool

What is it about?

The modeling of friction stir welding is challenging, because the material is subject to a large range of strain rates and temperatures. We have developed a test that better replicates the conditions in the material near a friction stir welding tool, in order to better measure flow stresses in these conditions, and thereby improve modeling accuracy.
