What is it about?
We aim tointroduce the nitride layer that was prepared on the plunger pair of ductile iron QT600-3 by the ion nitriding technique, and analyse the friction, hardness and wear properties of the nitride layer thus prove the conclusion that the ion nitriding technique can significantly improve the friction and wear resistance of the pump plunger pair.

Why is it important?
The plunger pair is an important part of the plunger pump, it is required to have high wear resistance, self-lubrication, deformation resistance, and sufficient strength and rigidity due to the harsh application environment, thus ductile iron is a common material for large piston pumps because of its excellent overall performance, and the ion nitriding technique can significantly improve the friction and wear resistance of the pump plunger pair, while the core still meets the toughness and strength requirement, as a result, it can help to increase the service life of the pump plunger pair and reduce the cost by ion nitriding technique.
Perspectives
The hardness, friction and wear resistance of the ductile iron can be significant improved by ion nitriding technique, and the wear resistance of ductile iron is increased by more than three times, the service life of large plunger pair can be effectively improved thus the ion nitriding technology has high industrial application value.
