What is it about?
Rare earth free cast creep resistant magnesium base alloy Mg-3Ca-2Sn-1Al alloy was subjected to hot compression testing at four different temperatures and strain rates. Based on the analysis of flow behavior together with processing maps and post-deformation microstructural characterization, an optimum hot working regime of temperature range and strain range is identified.

Why is it important?
Creep resistant Mg alloys are challenging to roll or forge. However, a narrow window regime of temperature and strain rate window is identified to do secondary processing of such magnesium alloy. Possibly this is the first such processing map report on such challenging creep resistant magnesium base alloy.
