What is it about?
Laboratory analysis is a critical part of environmental site assessment projects. Laboratories use different formats to report results to clients, especially low-concentration results that are close to or below the concentration that the instrument can reliably detect. Examples of reports are provided and a discussion of problems that can arise due to different reporting formats of laboratory results.

Why is it important?
The paper provides guidance on dealing with data provided by different laboratories that are reported in different formats and where to look for information needed to understand laboratory reports.
Perspectives
I was motivated to write this article by working on many projects where a chemist interpretation of laboratory reports was critical for the interpretation of the data and their use in data analysis.
