What is it about?
The surface of bitumen after quenching from melting temperature to room condition usually develops surface microstructures. Here we showed that the surface roughness changes as function of cold subzero temperatures and also these surface domains express distinct wettability properties respecting the condensed droplets at cold temperatures from humidity available in the ambient air. It is shown that different polymer and modification of the virgin bitumen can alter wetting properties or the surface domains and consequently freezing nucleation temperature.
