What is it about?
In Mexico, about half of the people with diabetes don't know it. MIDO is a strategy created by the Carlos Slim Foundation to screen for chronic diseases and then refer people who test positive to a health clinic. We wrote this article to summarize what we learned about chronic disease screening in Mexico after working with the MIDO strategy for a few years.

Why is it important?
This article is important because the traditional prevention policy in Mexico was to screenwith a paper-based risk factor questionnaire. However, this was used to screen patients already seeking healthcare services at facilities, and screening goals were set as a function of the number of questionnaires applied, not number of individuals screened. This article presents a new screening strategy that incorporates technology.
Perspectives
I hope this article presents a practical and real-world description of the state of screening programs in Mexico, so that policy makers can keep improving these programs.
