What is it about?
For the first time, the bond valence – bond length correlation curve is closely approximated for very short boron(III)-oxygen bonds.

Why is it important?
By using the traditional bond valence parameters reported for boron(III)-oxygen bonds, the rarely observed [BO2] coordination shells could not be analyzed within the framework of the bond valence model. This article solves the above problem.
Perspectives
This article could be useful for chemists and crystallographers dealing with nontrivial oxoborates.
