What is it about?
The religious aspect of Nationalsocialism is discussed very controversially. It is regarded as – no religion, substitute of religion, pseudoreligion, political or „real“ religion. This article will show that Hitler caused the experience of the Holy. This is due to Hitler's belief and the belief in Hitler. Nationalsocialism was seen as the fulfilment of Christianity. Hitler himself wanted to create a „Germanism“ following the example set by Judaism. The main source of the arising religious belief was Hitler. He was believed to be holy because his doctrine and the Fuehrermythos went well with traditional patterns of perception.

Why is it important?
The religious belief is crucial to understand the impact of National Socialism on most of the Germans. It throws light on the adoration of Hitler and explains why the Holocaust took place and why the Germans looked away. At last it explains why most Germans felt deceived and why nobody pleaded guilty after the war. The article shows that the concept of "Political Religon" covers up the fact that religion itself (Christianity, Judaism etc.) has a political dimension.
